The Bombay Beach Biennale this weekend was fun, y’all. Kind of like a regional burn but heavy on actual art galleries and light on dancefloors.
The history of the Salton Sea is wild too - it was created when they breached a Colorado River culvert by accident in 1905, and the river filled the basin for two years before they could plug in. Then it was a lake resort area where Hollywood stars partied, until the 60s or so when it started drying up and salinating, due to no new water and some being diverted to LA SD water tables.
Now it’s a forgotten abandoned part of the world filled with decaying buildings perfect for putting art in. Word on the street is that they found lithium under the lake though - so that will bring the boom times back if they start mining.
Technology

Stratechery’s post about the business moats Nvidia is building is a good read.
Ideologies
Alie Ward’s Ologies podcast interviews scientists about their work in her uniquely peppy and excited tone. I suppose my Idealogies section isn’t far off!
Memes
Photon Wizard and Baer are two artists I met at the biennale with dope instagrams.
This Youtuber issues simple prompt challenges like ‘a tiny figure battling a giant one’ to thousands of digital artists and then collates the responses into a video where every few seconds is a new breathtaking scene. I’m spellbound.
