#466 - La Ventana kiting, Mexico City water woes, and soccer goal celebrations
Olá do Sao Paulo! Tips and so forth to come next week while in Rio.
We flew the ten ish hours here from Mexico City last week, after a quick stint in Cabo San Lucas where I kited for 5 miles straight downwind in La Ventana two days in a row.
I could barely walk afterwards - needless to say La Ventana is a total gem for kiteboarders, only 2 hours from Cabo and very off the beaten track.
I watched The Batman new movie on the plane, which was far better than I expected. A truely modern version of the story, where the Riddler is an incel influencer who speaks of class war against the privileged Waynes! Worth all 3 hours.
I also watched Netflix’s new Wednesday series, and was inspired to make a spicy meme about it (below). It’s novel to find myself on the woke side of a mainstream culture war discussion, for once.
Did you know the original Addamses started as un-named New Yorker cartoons and they become canonically Latino when the 60s TV actor decided to name the father Latin Lover character Gomez instead of Repelli?

Earl Browder was the leader of the US Communist Party before, during, and just after WW2. Check out the flip flopping of the American stance towards him as our relationship with the Soviet Union changed over that time!
This is an incredible and comprehensive article tracing the journey tap water takes to enter and exit Mexico City - as it was a drained lake, all water now must be pumped in and there are severe shortage.

Congrats to Argentina for winning the World Cup - what a final! That sent me down this rabbit hole finding some of the fun ways players celebrate goals. Let’s just say the Africans have the most flair.
I’m also immensely enjoying discovering all the myriad genres of Brazilian music. I knew I liked Bossa Nova, but I didn’t know about the MPB genre - Tom Jobim can do no wrong! Aguas do Marco dependably brings me to tear for reasons unknown.
