#451 - Crypto rapper felon, Natives in Hollywood, and tipping at the counter
Not much to share IRL this week other than attending a talk by the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, gay men who dress up as nuns and it turns out, do a lot more than just host a Hunky Jesus competition every Easter!
They're responsible for several laws in California, and were involved in a few subcultures I'd never heard of before from the AIDS era. Good history lesson.

Rap Anthem for Misfits & Weirdos: Versace Bedouin Music Video — www.youtube.com
This isn't very Tech, but given that this white bread rapper Razzlekhan recently got arrested for laundering 4 billion dollars in Bitcoin, I'll slide it in here to balance the issue out.
You couldn't make this good of a tech parody if you tried. (Funny story - I actually met Heather IRL during her cold email days and I think we're still connected on Linkedin 😅)

Academy Apologizes to Sacheen Littlefeather for Her Mistreatment at the 1973 Oscars (Exclusive) — www.hollywoodreporter.com
At the 1973 Oscars, Marlon Brando refused his Oscar for the Godfather and had Native Sacheen Littlefeather read a treatise instead protesting Hollywood treatment of Native Americans. Apparently John Wayne had to 'be restrained' from pulling her offstage.
I hadn't heard of this! Brando apparently was quite the activist. And it's in the news now because the Academy finally apologized to her for the subsequent blacklist in entertainment she received.
You don’t need to tip for counter service. But here’s why you should. — www.washingtonpost.com
Ever freeze when someone turns the iPad around at a retail counter and it asks for a tip? Me too, and this article lays out the eloquent reasons why you definitely don't have to tip there, but if you like the restaurant, it's the best way to show appreciation.

Blood Quantum - Official Trailer — www.youtube.com
The Littlefeather story led me down a rabbit hole which led to this Native directed recent zombie movie about an uprising near a reservation where only the Natives are immune. Zombies as trenchant social commentary = count me in!
I wish I was in Dixie (song) — en.wikipedia.org
You've probably heard this catchy folk song before somewhere.
It was adopted as the de facto anthem of the Confederacy, popularized calling the South 'Dixie', and was a favorite played by Abraham Lincoln at Robert E Lee's surrender in an attempt to repatriate the song away from the the South. (The Dukes of Hazzard car's horn also plays the beginning of it)
Now that's some Americana history. Too bad the harmless lyrics are now associated with hate speech - it's a helluva folk tune!
