#434 - #vanlife start, arrogant philanthropy, and secret public hot tubs
Hello from my new #vanlife parked in the Mission district of SF!
It's surprisingly doable - there's plenty of small friction points to address or ignore, like space and street noise, but no big ones so far. Definitely going to get a coworking space so I don't spend all day in it though :)
Here's my blog post detailing all the learnings and takeaways from the three month build process. I'll post another in a month or so with on the street takeaways.
Tech
Focus on the emails that matter most. — www.gated.com
I'm not sure how I feel about this app that makes people donate to charity in order for your email to get to their inbox....philanthropy is great, but douchey 'I'm more important than you?' method? Not so much.
IRL Together Fund – Do More Together • Do Good Together — togetherfund.irl.com
This app helps you host events for your friends and wants to give you money to host events for your friends on the app. Seems an easy win!
Lifehacks
Connection Course – Art of Accomplishment — artofaccomplishment.com
Joe Hudson is a former VC now turned life coach who I have only heard very good things about, and here's a self paced course taken in partnerships for $300 each. I'll be starting it shortly - seems a great way to dip ones toes in.
Is Hawaii Open for Travel? Islanders See Benefits in More-Sustainable Tourism — www.bloomberg.com
Hawaii's Department of Tourism Head is Native Hawaiian for the first time ever, which brings a few changes like airport training to use reef safe sunscreen and the like.
I'm so glad to hear this and I don't understand why they weren't already doing such education work to date!

STEAMY SECRET / 30,000 dippers have gotten the skinny on Berkeley hot tub — www.sfgate.com
Some guy in Berkeley gives out keycodes to the hot tub in his backyard only to women and their guests, where no talking is allowed and it's kept at 113 F. I haven't been, but seems like a fun Bay Area quest to pursue.
